Playing a part in saving a child’s life
When Adele Kumst’s sons were still at school, there was a boy fighting for his life against Leukaemia and needing a bone marrow transplant.
Knowing that the boy could have been one of her own sons inspired Adele to register as a possible stem cell donor. She wasn’t a match on that occasion, but one day she got the call to say that she was the one in 100 000 match.
Adele sailed through the preparation and the donation. And then life pretty much went back to normal for her. Except that knowing she’d played a part in saving a life added a sparkle to everything she did. Encouraging others to sign up and to donate financially, Adele says.
